Chickens have been a part of our family long before Buck Run Coop began. We started our adventure raising chickens and ducks in 2008. With years of raising chickens under our belt, what started off as a hobby has turned into a passion.

ABOUT BUCK RUN COOP

Buck Run Coop is an urban coop located in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania. What is a urban coop you might ask? Our founder, Chef Dylan Simmons, runs a small chicken coop on the Simmons family's private residence. What started out as a hobby in 2008, has blossomed into a passion! Dylan has always focused on the health and well being of his girls (hens). "Happy, Healthy, Hens" is the mission at Buck Run Coop. We keep our chickens happy by supplying them with three acres of grass year-long to graze over, and dust boxes to dig in (keeps their feathers clean).

Our coop is equipped with a heat lamp and insulation for the girls to stay nice and warm during the cold winter months. It's also equipped with a roll away nesting box, keeping the eggs clean, and the hens safe and comfortable. They are fed using a feed bucket that was designed for minimal waste, and to prevent spoilage. Along with a constant supply of a balanced layer feed with oregano and cinnamon (a natural antibiotic and antioxidant). The hens also have a constant supply of fresh water using chicken watering cups that keep the water clean.

When you visit us here at Buck Run Coop you will notice a large garden. When time for harvest roles around, the spoiled girls are fed the left over kale, cabbage, and lettuce from season!

The Difference is in the yolk

Yellow is what most people associate with the color of an egg yolk, but here at Buck Run Coop you will be pleasantly surprised at the bright orange yolk hue! When hens get the chance to eat grasses and bugs, it changes the nutrients and color of there egg yolks! The more grass, bugs and vegetables they eat (especially vegetables high in caratanoids) the brighter orange the yolks will become, and the healthier they will be!
